Pressure Sand Filter: How to Operate and Maintain The filter performs the essential task of retaining the dirt contained in the water. The filter is can retain impurities until saturation or encrustation of the filter material. The maintenance required is minimal, but at least the following operations must be observed:
1 – Filtration (Filter) – the water enters the filter from the top, crosses the sand bed, exits from the bottom and returns to the treated water tank.
2 – Backwash – water enters the filter from below, passes through the sand bed, exits from the top and goes to the drain (to clean the filter sand).
3 – Drain (Waste) – the water does not enter the filter but is sent by the pump directly to the drain (to empty the treated water tank).

6 – Stop (Closed) – the water does not circulate beyond the valve (to stop the circulation to the filter and to the treated water tank).

How to start the filter

1. Uncover the prefilter and fill it up to the edge with water.
2. Replace the cover making sure the gasket is in place.
3. Put the 6-way valve in the backwash position. Open the suction gate valve.
4. Set the valve to Filtration and restart the pump after checking that all the suction and delivery ports are open.

CLEANING THE FILTER or BACKWASH

1. Stop the pump and close the suction and possibly delivery valves.
2. Uncover the prefilter and clean the basket.
3. Put the cover back on, checking the perfect seal of the gasket.
4. Place the 6-way valve on the Backwash position and open the suction and discharge valves.
5. Put the 6-way valve in the Rinse mode and let it for about 10 seconds to run.
6. Move to the Filtration position and restart the pump.

How long does a filtering plant have to work?
It is assumed that the water must always be clear and transparent. Make sure that the suction and discharge valves are well open and that, if using skimmers, the water is at the height of the two central screws.
The filter is enabled to work day and night without stopping; however, the minimum filtration duration varies from 10 to 12 hours over 24 hours, preferably during the day.
